Obey That Small Voice Within

 11 And he said, Go forth, and stand upon the mount before the Lord. And, behold, the Lord passed by, and a great and strong wind rent the mountains, and brake in pieces the rocks before the Lord; but the Lord was not in the wind: and after the wind an earthquake; but the Lord was not in the earthquake:
12 And after the earthquake a fire; but the Lord was not in the fire: and after the fire a still small voice.
  1 Kings 19:11-12

Have you ever been driving down the street and maybe was going over the speed limit? At the moment your odometer reaches 70 you here this voice deep within you warning you to slow down. You consider it but realize you only got 10 minutes to get to work so you choose to ignore the voice and keep your speed. A minute later you sail past a parked police car and the next thing you know, he hits his lights and is pulls you over. Now you're gonna be late for sure and you got a ticket. As you hand over your license and registration to the officer you think to yourself; I should have listened to that little voice within!!

What is that Voice within?

Do you not know that you are God's temple and that God's Spirit dwells in you?

In 1 Corinthians of the Holy Bible we are taught that the spirit of God dwells within you. God's spirit isn't within you just sitting there quietly doing nothing. His spirit is there as your Consciousness. It is there guiding you. Steering you. Telling you right from wrong. Assisting you through this life. The God Consciousness within you is never wrong and will never tell you to do wrong. It has knowledge of all things past, present, and future and cannot error. It loves you more than you can even fathom and wants more good things for your life than you can even think of or even imagine.

So why do we not listen to the Voice within all the time?

Trust God from the bottom of your heart;
    don’t try to figure out everything on your own.
Listen for God’s voice in everything you do, everywhere you go;
    he’s the one who will keep you on track.
Don’t assume that you know it all.
Proverbs 3: 5-9 (The Message Bible)

Often times we don't listen to God's voice within us for two reasons: (1)because we think we know what's best at that given moment. (2)we know what God is saying is the best thing to do but, we don't want to do it.

As humans we often think we know it all. We think, 'who knows better about my wants and needs than me'? Oh yeah, we can get down right cocky when we think we got it all figured out. In our moments of extreme egotisticism (I made that word up, lol), we tell that voice shut up I got this. Other times we don't ignore the Voice so blatantly. We reason with It until we've convinced ourselves that our way is the best way. Either way, when we don't yield to the Voice of God within, we almost always regret it.

Tips for hearing and heeding His voice
  • Learn to recognize the difference between God's voice and the thoughts and reasoning of the Ego
  • God's voice often comes in the form of a feeling rather than an audible voice. Learn to recognize the feeling of God's voice.
  • If you hear His voice DON"T IGNORE IT!!! God will never steer you wrong. Trust in Him and you're life will begin to smoothly and have less drama.
